Efficient management of use specific street parking | València Smart City - Smart City - València

Efficient management of limited mobility parking, load/unload parking for carriers and taxi street parking

During the summer of 2020, sensors were installed in 65 parking spaces of different categories throughout the city to start all the necessary technical tests.

València started the project in 2021 with 1,060 intelligent parking spaces for reduced mobility, loading and unloading and cabs.

They provide real-time information on the status of parking spaces for people with reduced mobility (666 seats, or 27% of the city's total), loading and unloading areas (301 seats) and cab rank areas (93 seats). It is expected to be the origin of the total sensorization of these spaces in the city.

Currently, 3,068 spaces are being sensorized, of which 2,040 will be for reduced mobility spaces, 899 for loading and unloading and 129 will signal cab ranks to know whether or not cabs are available.

It provides various benefits to the public: efficient management of parking spaces for people with reduced mobility (PRM), verifying whether the user is authorized or not, locating cab ranks with vehicles or, in the case of carriers, being able to know whether a loading and unloading area is occupied or free and to reserve it (with or without a specific schedule).

All the information on these parking areas will be collected by the VLCi platform, which will make it possible to measure their use and analyze the data to improve mobility in the city of Valencia.

The occupancy sensors will detect the presence of vehicles in the parking spaces, so it will be possible to provide real-time information on whether the space is free or occupied. In this way, anyone will be able to know through the municipal website, the website 'València al minut', the Geoportal or the AppValència, if a space is free or not, and the City Council will also obtain additional information on turnover flows that will allow us to improve decision-making and service.

Objective

Control of parking spaces for people with reduced mobility, loading and unloading, and cab ranks.

Benefits

  • Monitoring and supervision of parking space occupancy in real-time.
  • New management application for PRM parking spaces for the OMAD.
  • Integration with App.
  • Dashboard (average occupancy time per space, average space availability, space usage, etc.).
  • Configurable alarms

EFFICIENT MANAGEMENT

Concerning parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility (PRM), in the development of which the Mobility and Social Welfare services have collaborated, the development of additional software is planned to promote their proper use by combating fraud. This means that users of PRM parking spaces, having parking cards issued by the City Council of Valencia, will be able to -with the specific application for mobile devices and through geolocation- register their identification once they park. In this way it will be possible to know if a vehicle parked in a PRM reservation is authorized or not to use that reservation and to give inspectors who are responsible for reviewing the occupation of these places can also do so through this app and not only through the parking cards that until now are granted.

This measure will be a step forward for mobility in the city for people with some kind of disability. The city can use technology to advance rights and make Valencia a city with universal accessibility for all people.

The choice of the location of the squares has been chosen taking into account whether the areas are busy because they are close to health centers, markets, etc. ..... In the case of cab ranks, the first two spaces of the entire parking area will be monitored, as this will be sufficient to indicate whether cabs are available at that rank.
