València Green Capital joins Galápagos Day
As part of its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, València European Green Capital 2024 joins Galápagos Day. This global event seeks to raise awareness about the preservation of species and biodiversity, with special attention to the Galápagos tortoises, symbols of longevity and ecological balance. València thus strengthens its leadership in conserving the natural environment, promoting actions that foster awareness and respect for nature, in line with its vision of a greener and more sustainable future.
The international scientific community, experts in the unique biodiversity of the Galápagos Archipelago (Ecuador), will gather in Valencia to celebrate Galápagos Day (September 23-25) to reflect on best practices in sustainability, conservation, and responsible tourism. The event is organized by the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), the Galápagos Science Center, and GAIAS Europe, USFQ’s hub located in Valencia, where these sessions will take place. The event will bring together strategies to address the environmental challenges faced by diverse biospheres such as the Galápagos Islands and the natural ecosystems of Valencia, at a time when the Spanish city holds the title of European Green Capital 2024, awarded by the European Commission.
Moreover, Galápagos Day has the support of institutions and academic and scientific centers such as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Oceanogràfic, the University of Edinburgh, the Universitat Politècnica de València, and the Worldwide Veterinary Service.
