ITU-T L.1603 Recommendation, “Key Performance Indicators for Smart and Sustainable Cities”, which was approved as a draft in April 2016, aims to measure the city’s intelligence and sustainability. It has been developed in conjunction with the ITU, UNECE and other organizations of the United Nations. The recommendation defines a set of useful indicators to quantify the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) of the City .
València was selected as a lighthouse city to evaluate the suitability of this new recommendation. In this sense, València has collaborated with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in offering feedback on the evaluation process and has contributed to the improvement of the regulations themselves.
In October 2019 the U4SSC initiative held in València the IX edition of the Green Standards Week, and it was also in that forum that the mayor of València, Joan Ribó, received from the hands of Chaesub Lee, director of the ITU Bureau of Standardization, the Certificate of Satisfactory Implementation of the United 4 Smart Sustainable Cities, a results report that measures the level of sustainability and digitization of València according to the best international standards.
